No, of course not… BetVictor isn´t retiring… the illustrious (because online gambling history making) Gibraltar based Netent Casino will keep on going (strong, as always). But who says “BetVictor” also says Victor Chandler, the founder and chairman of the BetVictor company, who has lead the online bookmaking and casino gaming enterprise for over 40 years. And Victor, as was announced last Friday, has decided it was time for him to make room for “fresh blood” at BetVictor, thus stepping down as chairman and (partly) retiring from his business.
It´s actually a “friendly” business take-over as BetVictor was acquired by Michael Tabor, a good friend of Victor Chandler, who (as a founding shareholder) already had a 45% stake in the betting firm. And as renowned as “gentleman bookmaker” Victor Chandler is, also is Michael Tabor.
Tabor is a UK businessman, who (co-)owns racetracks, thoroughbred racehorses, the Sandy Lane Hotel on Barbados and the pub-chain Mtchells & Butlers. He formerly was a bookmaker himself, having bought and owned the Arthur Prince betting shops chain until 1995 (when he sold the business to Coral). Tabor is also known as a successful (odds influencing) gambler and is listed by magazines like The Sunday Times and Management Magazine as one of Great Britain’s richest people.
The sale of BetVictor to Tabor (of which the value by the way wasn´t disclosed) doesn´t mean Victor Chandler is completely “cut loose” from his company, as he will stay on as a consultant. Also Michael Carlton will step down as the company´s CEO but equally stays on as a consultant during the transfer of the firm to a new management team.
Both Michael Tabor and Victor Chandler commented on the deal that already has been approved by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner of which BetVictor holds its online betting and casino gaming license.
Michael Tabor said:
“I believe the BetVictor brand has enormous potential and is well placed to continue its expansion with further investment and strategic development”.
On his turn Victor Chandler stated:
“Having owned and led this business for more than 40 years, I looked towards the future and I decided that the company would be best served under new ownership and leadership.
“I have known Mr Tabor for many years and I am confident that the company will continue to thrive under his ownership.”
What, besides acting as a BetVictor consultant, will be the next occupation of Victor Chandler isn´t revealed (yet). It´s likely it will have something to do with his 3 “hobbies”: training racehorses, collecting art and sponsoring the Nottingham Forrest football club.
Meanwhile, for us players probably nothing will change much and BetVictor will remain one of the best Netent Casinos in which we can play our favorite Netent casino games and profit from the casino´s regularly organized casino bonuses and Free Spin promotions. Long live BetVictor!
