Here at NetEntCasino we have been shouting it from the roof tops; Our favourite game developer, NetEnt celebrates 20 years of casino entertainment, because that is how long the company has been around. From its humble beginnings in 1996 with 3 employees, 1 server and 1 dissatisfied customer, it has grown out to be a true pioneer that makes fantastic products and has a sound business model. Find out about NetEnt’s journey from humble beginnings to the producer of the most innovative casino games on the market.
20 years NetEnt: how to Celebrate
NetEnt invited ad man and comedian David Sundin, who is well-known in his native Sweden, to produce a film on the history of NetEnt. Mr. Sudin had several ideas, from super heroes to warriors on the casino market, that didn’t go down that well with NetEnt management team. As the company’s CEO Per Eriksson states; “It’s not about being a super hero or a warrior. It’s about our people who come from all over the world with whom we share a passion and with whom we won, lost, laughed a lot and had great fun. And we will continue to do so in the future”.
The NetEnt time line
NetEnt divides up its history into several time periods. The years 1996 until 2000 are considered the start-up face. The company had 3 employees and made use of 1 server that seems to date from the stone-age compared to today’s standards. The games NetEnt developed at the time were exact replicas of the slot machines you could find at the gambling halls of those days. The year 2000 was a tough year for the company. It had to lay off people and founder Pontus Lindwall was considering to sell the company for a bargain price, but no one seemed interested at the time.
From the year 2000 up to the mid noughties the igaming enterprise was working its way up and from 2005 onwards the company really started to bloom and opened several offices across Europe. In 2006 NetEnt set foot in Malta. A year later the company went public and with the IPO a lot more funds became available to do some innovating stuff. In 2008 the company launched the jackpot slot game Mega Fortune, which is not one of the most popular pooled online jackpot games on the market. A year later the company set up office in that other igaming hub Gibraltar. In 2012 opened an office in Kiev, Ukraine and last year NetEnt set foot on American soil by opening an office in New Jersey. This year the company set up shop in the Central European cultural hub of Krakow, Poland.
The hit jackpot game Mega Fortune was already mentioned and when it comes to other hits the company is sure to remember the releases of Bloodsuckers in 2009, conquistadores slot game Gonzo’s Quest in 2010 and the first mobile game saw the light of day in the same year. The now so firmly established NetEnt Live Casino was launched in 2013.

As the company looks back at its 20 year history it’s doing better than ever. From 1 dissatisfied customer back in 1996 NetEnt has now 173 happy customers and more than 900 employees across the world. CEO Per Eriksson can’t stop emphasising that the company is about passion, having fun and creating great casino fire work with fantastic people from all over the world. Very recently the company has gained a gaming licence in Romania. Romania is a regulated casino market and the company currently has several customers on this market. While our favourite gaming developer is expanding, we are reaping the benefits by enjoying NetEnt’s fantastic games.
