NetEnt Games Now Live in Spain!

NetEnt Games Now Live in Spain! While gambling in it’s entirety has long been legal in Spain, the industry was monopolised by basic lotteries and all legal gambling was strictly controlled. Changes began in the late 70’s when laws on skill-based gambling were relaxed and, again, in 1981 when games of chance- such as slot machines- were also made legal. However, it’s only in recent years that Spain have made big steps towards the legalisation and regulation of the online casino market.

Back up a few years to 2012 and laws came into force to ensure that licensed operators could peddle their wares in Spain (or, at least, some of their wares- sports betting and skill-based gambling); with heavy fines in place for those who continued to operate illegally. While the law only came into force in June of 2012, the result of this regulation was enormous. In the time between then and the end of 2012, one million Spanish players took to online gambling!

In 2014, the ensuing regulations finally included online slots and, in the time since, operators have scrabbled to secure the licensing necessary to offer their games in the country.

The Spanish market is a highly competitive one. Spain has more gaming lovers than most other European countries; with Spanish players spending an average twice as much as those in the UK, so it comes as little surprise that NetEnt- one of the World’s most successful game developers and distributors, would want to get in on the action.

Following our announcement in November 2014 that online casino games would finally be offered, earlier this year, NetEnt signed a license agreement with CODERE- one of the largest and most highly respected gaming operators in Spain.

The company manage over 50,000 gaming machines, almost 180 gaming halls, 1, 800 betting locations, 2 racetracks and online gaming sites, throughout Spain, Italy and Latin America and, in 2007, became the first Spanish gaming company to float on the stock market. And today, it was finally announced that a selection of NetEnt slots had gone live on the company’s main online casino site.

A brief look at the site reveals that a small selection of slots have initially been added but, thankfully for Spanish casino players, some of NetEnt’s most popular slots are present and correct, including Gonzo’s Quest, Jack Hammer, Fruit Shop, Twin Spin, Flowers and, of course, Starburst. All the games are available in NetEnt Touch for mobile, so Spanish mobile casino players will get a chance to spin the reels too. We have no doubt that, as time progresses and Spanish players have an opportunity to try these slots, a greater variety will be offered.
