The International Gaming Awards are now into their 9th year and, in a glitzy ceremony at The Savoy in London last night, announced their winners for some of the top prizes in the industry for 2016. Among the winners? NetEnt- just as they did last year- scooped the prestigious Slot Provider of the Year Award.
WHAT ARE THE INTERNATIONAL GAMING AWARDS?
The International Gaming Awards were set up back in 2008 (is it just me or does that not feel like it should be 9 years ago?!) and, in the time since, have been awarding prizes to the hottest casinos, software suppliers and manufacturers in the industry- both online and land-based.
The event- which donates funds to their selected charities every year (including Care International, Children with Cancer UK, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Responsible Gambling Trust), took place at the five-star Savoy Hotel in London, UK this year and included a champagne reception, gala dinner, live entertainment and, of course, the awards ceremony itself.
NETENT WINS SLOT PROVIDER OF THE YEAR
Competition was tight this year, and NetEnt were shortlisted for the Slot Provider of the Year Award alongside the likes of IGT, Microgaming, NYX and Play ‘N Go. But, following intense scrutinisation by the International Gaming Awards judges, the pack was narrowed down and NetEnt were selected as the worthy winners.
NetEnt, who also sponsored the award for Online Casino Operator of the Year, are no newcomers to the awards scene- having won titles at the Global Gaming Awards, EGR Awards and the International Gaming Awards last year, but we have no doubt they’ll be making space in the trophy cabinet for this new addition.
Given the unprecedented success of their latest release last month- Guns and Roses slot, it will come as little wonder to most that they’re already starting to stack up the prizes for 2016.
WHO ELSE WON?
Of course, NetEnt were not the only winners, and several of the casinos we promote to our players were similarly rewarded with awards for their achievements coming into 2016.
LEOVEGAS WINS ONLINE OPERATOR OF THE YEAR
Quite coincidentally, LeoVegas scooped NetEnt’s sponsored award this year- for Online Operator of the Year. The casino, which has been busy in recent months adding sports betting to their selection, creating an innovative ad campaign and signing up a new brand ambassador (Jon Olsson), is renowned for being the ‘king of mobile casinos’ and this prize only serves to reinforce their position on the throne.
