Unibet & William Hill add Twitter Age Verification! We all know that in most countries in Europe, you need to be over 18 to legally gamble on online casinos. Well, did you know that you now have to be over 18 to follow them on Twitter too? Social Media is an incredible tool when it comes to all businesses and most large Netent casinos use it to market their product. It makes communication between customer and casino much quicker and easier and brings a more human aspect to brands.

However, two brands have been quick to realise how important it is to restrict this close contact to over 18s only. They feel that interacting with underage Twitter users is inappropriate and could lead to problematic behaviour for these vulnerable youngsters.

William Hill claim to be the first online casino in Europe to take the plunge and begin age monitoring their Twitter followers and Unibet have been quick to follow. Now, when tweeters attempt to follow these brands they’ll be prompted to confirm their date of birth in order to continue. No, it’s not going to be 100% accurate each time but it’s a great step in the right direction and sets a good example both to players and casinos alike.

“Age verification, disclosure, and consumer protection is paramount across our entire business, and over the last few years has become even more important within our owned digital IP channels such as our apps and website…Our age verification processes are robust, and now Twitter’s age screening tool will help to ensure we are engaging with age appropriate audiences across social media too.”
