666Bet + MetroPlay Not Yet Paying Player Payouts?
Published on by Adam
It has been a tough few months for Metro Play and 666Bet, but right now it’s their players who are really feeling the stress. After a chaotic Cheltenham festival where players were able to deposit and play, but withdrawals were never processed and support were uncontactable, their licenses from the UK and Alderney Gambling Commissions were suspended, meaning that they had to stop offering their services, preventing players from logging in. Update: the license suspension was due to the arrest of the company director on alleged tax fraud.
Whilst it’s great that no more players could signup and there was no more chance of players making deposits to a potentially unreliable site, it meant players with an account balance weren’t able to withdraw those funds.
All of this is bad news for players who have an account balance at 666Bet or Metro Play, as it looks like they have little to no intention of giving players their funds back any time soon and some feel they are using the money as a way to strong arm the licensing bodies into giving them their licenses back. Not cool.
The UK Gaming Commission has made it clear to the operator and to players that although the license and operations are suspended, outstanding player balances not only can be paid back but must be paid back to customers ASAP.
“The Commission has made it clear that, while the licence is suspended, Metro Play Limited is authorised to settle any outstanding winning bets and return any outstanding balances to customers on request – and we expect them to do so. We have written to the operator to remind them of their licence obligations in this regards, but it is not within our remit to recover funds on behalf of their customers.”
However, Metro Play are refusing to send back player funds until their license is re-enabled, which may never happen.
“We apologise for the continued delay in returning customer funds. We are currently seeking the appropriate approval from the UK Gambling Commission to re-open 666BET and Metro Play to enable customers to access their accounts. We hope to have further news shortly. Thank you once again for your continued patience but please be assure we are doing all we can to return our customers’ funds.”
– Metro Play statement.
It seems that the two sides are both claiming they’re waiting for the other to resolve this, with the Gambling Commission stating that player funds should be returned ASAP, but Metro Play claiming they’re waiting for the Gambling Commission to re-open their license before doing so, so we’ll be interested to see how this moves forwards.
Due to all the problems and controversy around this seemingly untrustworthy brand, and after my own awful experience with them, we’ve taken the decision to add a ‘Suspended’ section to our website. We want to be an all round Netent information zone, which includes informing players of site to be wary of, such as this.
