Yesterday we spoke about the gaming restrictions and licensing situation in Belgium and we learnt that it’s a tough market. It’s heavily regulated and they’ll only consider a casino for an online license if they own or are aligned with a bricks-and-mortar land based casino. Even then, they only had 9 licenses available.
It has since been announced that the new coalition government intend to add two more licenses chances, taking the total from 9 to 11. This may sound like small steps but in such a controlled market this is great news for two lucky casinos.
The coalition agreement states;
“The government will review the Games of Chance Act of 7 May 1999, with the purpose of increasing the number of allowed Class 1 establishments of games of chance to 11.”
Although the actual regulating body, the BGC, has not been consulted in this decision, they have declared to stand by any governmental changes which will continue to enforce and align with their desire to protect players living in their fine country.
