Dutch Gaming Authority invites gaming providers for consultation

Everywhere in Europe governments are putting an effort to regulate the online gaming business, not in the least to secure huge tax profits this fast growing industry potentially can generate. In the Netherlands the Dutch Gaming Authority (in Dutch the “Nederlandse Kansspel Autoriteit”) already contacted about 40 online providers in 2012 (under which some Netent Casinos), when it began its regulating activities as part of the Dutch Ministry of Justice, to encourage them to follow some provisional guidelines pending definitive legislation.
Those guidelines consisted of refraining from further national advertisement for the casinos in print and on (television)screen and no longer offering their websites in the Dutch language or with the .nl extension. According to the same DGA more than half of those casinos contacted have responded positively to their recommendations and have implemented the advised changes. Logical, because those casinos who wouldn’t obey the DGA’s indications could be excluded from future licensing in the regulated market.
The expectations are the Dutch gaming regulations will follow the model of Denmark, that has a quite liberal policy in which anybody can apply for a casino games provider license and there are few restrictions on either the games or the stakes. It’s also expected the revenue tax for the land based operating casinos will end up around 29% and for the online providers around 20%, as is also the case in the Danish model. As published by e-Gaming Review the Dutch internet gaming market could be worth € 223 million by 2015.
This month, on the 28-th of January, the DGA will have a consulting meeting with the main stakeholders on the Dutch market to discuss how a regulated market should look like and which steps need to be taken to come to a general satisfying legislation.
Although we’ll keep a close eye on the developments regarding the Dutch casino gaming market regulation, for the time being it changes nothing for the fans of the exciting Netent casino games, nor for the reliable Netent Casinos on our website. You can continue to have your casino fun and we hope the regulated markets everywhere will allow you to do so for many years to come.
