I’ve personally been playing at Mr Green for a while and have always idly wondered about the origins of the brand, the name and the character. Whilst the website has hints of the colour green, it’s not a dominant theme, however Mr Green himself is always dressed in the smartest lucky green suit, with his bowler hat, a deck of cards, always something mysteriously covering his face.
On our recent trip to London we met Gemma Pritchard from Mr Green and had a good chat about the origins of the name. For a long time, there was an air of secrecy around the whole branding, but now, finally, the full story is available.
The Name ‘Mr Green’
The name Mr Green was decided after a quick google search from the founders. Frederik Sidfalk stumbled across Moe Greene, a fictional character from ‘The Godfather’. Mr Greene has been called the Kind of Las Vegas after playing a huge part in the development of casino gambling in Las Vegas, making it an entertainment mecca and it’s this legacy that the founders wanted to emulate (not the fact he’s one of the biggest mobsters in fiction!).
The casino Mr Green character is somewhat more refined than Moe Greene. He’s a gentleman, first and foremost and interested only in fun, excitement and entertainment in a reliable, safe and controlled environment.
The Mr Green Character
Mr Green has a mixed history, but has turned into the most wonderful gentleman anyone could have hoped for. Abandoned as a baby, with no clue as to his heritage, he had only an expensive pushchair, expensive and stylish baby clothes and a wad of cash to his name. He was entrusted into the care of Nuns who took good care of him in his early years.
At the age of 2, Mr Green was adopted by a loving hat maker and his wife, where he was taken to the countryside to grow up amongst nature. He grew into a class clown at school, loved by his peers but despaired of by his teachers. It was clear he was filled with genius, but was more interested in getting attention any way possible, even by skipping class! Eventually his maths teacher, Marcus du Sautoy finally found a way to reach out to the teenage Mr Green and help him harness his abilities for good. He broadened the young mans mind and filled it with literature and philosophy, without ever for a moment losing his sense of fun and adventure.
Mr du Sautoy is largely credited as helping to form Mr Greens distinctive style- the bowler hat, the classic umbrella and gentleman’s manners. As he grew older, with his maths teachers great influence, he went on to travel the world, learning many languages, cultures and religions, even serving for some time in the military. He decided it wasn’t for him however after he found himself constantly in trouble for refusing to fire a weapon and one time, ended up in military prison (a story you must ask him about if you are ever to meet him).
Although Mr Green loved attention as a teen, in his adult years, he prefers to create excitement and fun for others, whilst retaining an air of anonymity, hence he always hides his face. But he brings sunshine and smiles wherever he goes and when playing at his online Netent casino, you can’t help but smile yourself.
