We’re just a few steps away from the release of NetEnt’s next entry in the Fairytale Legends series – Hansel and Gretel on 24th April, and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that NetEnt has finally made its first video footage available! Does it live up to our expectations? It sure does! And we couldn’t have expected anything less after the beautiful and magical childhood gem that it’s slightly older sibling – Red Riding Hood was. Read on to find out how this first footage has enchanted us!
NetEnt knows it has dreamt up a formula that works wonders. This is true for Red Riding Hood, and it continues to come through with Hansel and Gretel. Everything about the aesthetics of this game screams magic. The dark sky with animated stars dotting the background, the two tousle-haired siblings walking through the evening woods, the colourful and sweet gingerbread and candied house – all of this and more lays the setting that kindles images faithful to our reading of this timeless fairy tale as children.
This setting is adorned with luminous and sparkling effects – fireworks, fireflies, white pigeons shedding feathers as they take flight, and shimmery gem-like candy. And once again, the radiant fairy who helped guide Red Riding Hood back home to her grandmother is back once more to guide Hansel and Gretel back home.
The choice of music also hits home. Just like with Red Riding Hood, every time you spin the reels, Hansel and Gretel are set into motion and every step they take is accompanied by an orchestral tune that feels as enchanting as the game itself.
Hansel and Gretel is a 5-reel, 3-row slot with 20 pay lines. We don’t know yet how the basic gameplay mechanics can be reconfigured (e.g. toggling pay lines, increasing/decreasing betting amounts, etc.). But the video footage has given us a good idea of how the special features will pan out. Here’s a quick look:
The fairy appears in the middle to wave her wand to magically transform columns or tiles into any of the special features randomly. When enough tiles are transformed, you can score a big win and tree branches with candy dangling from them cover the screen.
On a separate note, the video has also made it clear that the game will be NetEnt Touch convertible and all features will be adapted to fit your smart device’s screen. We’ve come to expect this to be a given nowadays, what with the increase in the demographic of on-the-go players these days.
While NetEnt has seriously been upping its game with one great game launch even better than the previous one, we must say we have a special soft spot for the Fairytale Legend series. We’re not sure if it’s due to the beauty and love that goes into making these ones, or that they are adaptations of stories that accompanied us throughout our childhood. It’s probably a mix of both. At any rate, we are waiting in wild anticipation for this one to hit online casinos.
So, make sure you mark the 24th of April on your calendar to get a first taste of the gingerbread and candy Hansel and Gretel will be bringing to us. And don’t forget to keep an eye out in our newsfeed as we find out which casinos will be tacking on the best promo offers as Fairytale Legends: Hansel and Gretel drops!
