First Play of Netent’s Steamtower Video Slot: Impression & Review

Published on by Adam

First Play of Netent's Steamtower Video Slot: Impression & ReviewI was lucky enough to get a chance to have a sneaky preview play on Netent’s upcoming video slot Steamtower, which is due to be released next week and thought I’d gather my thoughts into a ‘first impressions’ post for our loyal readers. I am someone who likes to play little but often (as is actually quite common with female players!). I make small deposits but do small spins so the money lasts me longer; I generally play for the enjoyment rather than the constant thrill of the big win and Steamtower is the perfect slot for that. It has 15 pay-lines, meaning you can spin from as little as 15c, perfect for smaller players like myself, but it’s still exciting enough to tempt in bigger players too, with plenty of opportunities of big wins for those adrenaline junkies out there.

Steamtower gives of a fearsome first impression with an incredibly lifelike and believable image of the dangerous dragon holding the princess hostage, as soon as you open up the game. The main character (you!) is at the forefront, however, ready to act the hero and do whatever it takes to save the damsel in distress.

Then, as soon as the reels load, the music begins. It’s an upbeat, heroic kind of number, but with the ability to build suspense and really have tensions rising as we spin in fear of what could happen to the princess. In Steamtower, you are really playing for the Free Spins tower climb. Spin to spin there isn’t that much excitement. The Stacked Wilds are there, but they don’t guarantee a win and although it’s fun when he covers an entire row, more often than not you just get a foot or a head covering just the one symbol. Spin to spin, the wins aren’t huge, although of course they increase the higher the coin value.

The hero stands patiently to the left of the reels as you spin, he’s animated so you can see him standing ready to take action as soon as needed. Then, when the time is right he springs into motion and climbs that tower like an animal!

As the game is relying on one main factor to keep you hooked, it can get a little boring if you find the Free Spin tower climb just isn’t happening. I deposited €20 to play with and was doing the smallest stake of 15c per spin, to get the most play possible and give me the most chance of testing out all features for the post. The Free Spin tower climb completely eluded me until I was down to just 90c! That’s a whole lot of spinning without much excitement, however once the Free Spins finally hit, I sat up in my seat and took notice.

Free Spins Tower Climb

The Free Spins tower climb is really what we’re here for and it’s excitement from start to finish. Once I hit this round once, I found myself hitting it 3 times in total, then closing the game €10 in profit. On my first round I won around €2.50 and reached Floor 4, which doesn’t sound that impressive, but once I got back to the reels and span with my remaining few euros, I managed to hit the Free Spins round 2 more times. The second time I almost got to the top, finishing on Floor 8 with a €10 win and then on my third chance, I only reached Floor 4 but left with a Mega Win of over €20 from just a 15c spin.

Of course, as with all Netent games, Steamtower is run from a Random Number Generator (or RNG) so how often you win and how many times you get the Free Spins game is totally random. Some days you might get it loads, other days not at all. In my honest opinion this game can get a little monotonous on the days when the Free Spins doesn’t make your appearance, but when they do, they’re really worth the wait!

Steamtower is released on February 23rd at which time it’ll be available to play for free in our Games Lobby, so you’ll get your own chance to save the poor maiden at the top of the tower.
