Aloha: Cluster Pays is the latest game set to roll out of the NetEnt design room and into the best online casinos. It is not scheduled for release until March 22nd, but we have been digging around for a sneak preview play all week and now we’ve finally managed to strike gold. Let’s see what this brand new video slot has to offer.
We brought you first footage of Aloha! Cluster Pays last month so we knew a bit about the game already, and it conveniently manages to portray both its theme and its key feature it it’s short and snappy title anyway. ‘Aloha’ means ‘Hello’ in Hawaiian for those of you who don’t know, and this is a slot that transports you straight to the vibrant Pacific island. Spin to win and you will quickly realise that ‘clusters’ of nine symbols or more provide your tickets to some really tropical treats. Clusters actually replace traditional bet lines to provide a uniquely NetEnt twist, but there are some other great features too.
Three or more free spins symbols in the main game will take you to a free spins round, sticky win re-spins clock up mega cash prizes and handy substituting symbols help you create more clusters for cash. All those features are packaged into a game that great looking game with a vibrant design and jaunty soundtrack that will keep you entertained for hours as you try to cash in on those clusters.
The ‘cluster pays’ element of Aloha is what sets it apart from other slots. At first glance, it looks like a familiar set up with 6 rows and 5 reels but when you start playing the game, you realise that it is packed full of fun and interesting features. It didn’t take me long to trigger the free spins round by matching three ‘free spins’ symbols in one single spin. Three free spins symbols equals 9 free spins, but if you are lucky enough to land more than 3 in one spin, you will receive an increased number of free spins (the maximum number you can earn is 12 for matching 6 free spins symbols in the main game).
The free spins round features a nifty ‘symbol drop’ mechanism. This automatically removes low paying symbols to give you a better chance of matching high paying ‘mask’ symbols and securing a big win. If you land 3 or more free spins symbols during a free spins round, you will also win additional free spins.
During the main game, substitution symbols (a brown box with a question mark on it) replicate adjacent symbols to help create clusters. A cluster is classed as 9 touching symbols or more. The bigger your cluster, the bigger your win and the game helps you along by offering stacked versions of the highest paying ‘mask’ symbols which count as two. A cluster of mask symbols can also randomly trigger a sticky win respins round during which you can create a huge cluster. I managed to hit a 21 symbol cluster for a 2500 coin win.
Aloha! Cluster Pays is another winner from NetEnt. I wasn’t sure how I would react to the game after all the hype and excitement of other releases this year such as Guns N’ Roses and Drive: Multiplier Mayhem but I found myself engrossed in Aloha for ages when I should have been writing this review. It’s bright, fun and stacked with features and I love the novelty of the cluster pays philosophy.
You don’t have to wait to long at all for your own chance to play one of the best new slots of the year so far either – it’s release to all casinos on Tuesday March 22nd. If you want a sneak preview of your own in the mean time, head over to LeoVegas or BetSafe and see if you love it as much as we did. Watch this space on the big day itself for news of where you can find Aloha! Cluster Pays free spins bundles and other bonus packages.
