Gambling Commission Regulatory Changes in the UK- Who, What, When and Why?

Gambling Commission Regulatory Changes in the UK- Who, What, When and Why?The UK Gambling Commission has been in existence since the Gambling Act in 2005 and was fully in effect by 2007. They have been issuing licenses to operators since then and aim to ensure gambling is crime free, fair and open and that young and vulnerable people are protected. Currently, a gaming website does not have to have a UK gaming license in order to operate there, providing they are registered and licensed overseas. This is the part that’s going to change on October 1st 2014.

As of October 1st 2014 all gaming websites who wish to advertise and provide services within Great Britain will be required to have a license from the UK Gambling Commission, regardless if they are registered overseas and hold a license elsewhere. For the most part this wont affect players- all the gaming companies who wish to offer their services in the UK will apply for a license and providing they are up to the expected standards they’ll have that license granted.

What it does mean is that UK based players can have greater confidence in the websites they are playing on. They can be sure, as long as they see reference to the UK license, that the website is strictly controlled and regulated by a body they can trust. The UK Gambling Commission don’t deal with consumer complaints but part of their licensing requirements mean each website must have a strong and clear complaints policy and manage customer queries in the best way possible.

Some of our favourite Netent casinos already have UK licenses such as Comeon, Mr Green and Mr Smith Casino, so wherever you’re based make sure you check them out and give them a try!
