Netent games forever taboo for Norwegian Netent gaming fans? (part 1)

Published on 1 November 2014 by Sebas

Norwegian Gaming Authority warns various renowned Netent CasinosLiterally everywhere around the world governments are (or recently have been) implementing rules and regulations regarding online betting and casino gaming, and by doing so in fact are ‘regulating’ the way you play your favorite Netent casino games in your favorite Netent Casinos. About time to shed some more light on the matter, and no better way to do this than by analyzing the recent ‘regulatory’ behavior of the Norwegian government… in 2 parts.

At this moment there’s (again) some ‘rumble’ in ‘the online gaming regulating jungle’ since at the beginning of this month the Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority warned 24 online casinos, of which 15 Netent Casinos, to stop offering their services to Norwegian players.

Betsson, Unibet, ComeOn! and even Mr. Green…

…were among those Netent Casinos that received a letter from the Norwegian Gaming Authority, asking the addressed parties to stop targeting and accepting Norwegian players as (potential) customers.
The Authority pointed out that in Norway Norsk Tipping is “currently the only legal provider of online games of chance”. Therefore any other online entity that provides online gaming products to Norwegians is in fact breaking the Norwegian law and consequently can be prosecuted for committing a crime.

Prohibited to organize, market and mediate…

On top of this the communication emphasized that promoting online betting and casino gaming and / or engaging in any marketing activity concerning online gambling (directed towards Norwegian citizens) is explicitly against the Norwegian law too. As the letter stated: “It is prohibited in Norway to organize, market and mediate gambling games for which a permit has not been granted”.

Therefore the notification was also sent to 8 (in Norway) famous celebrities, who each act as a spokesperson or ambassador for one of the 24 addressed online casinos and by doing so (maybe even without knowing) are constantly violating the rules and regulations of the Northern European country.

The Authority, last but not least, made it very clear that it “will consider taking direct action” against anyone involved, “if the illegal marketing and mediation of gambling games does not cease”.

Netent Casinos not save and reliable anymore?

So do the above mentioned and other notified Netent Casinos (that up ´til now were considered, at least as far as we’re concerned, safe, reliable, honest and totally trustworthy establishments) suddenly have become ‘criminal organizations’, wittingly trying to undermine Norwegian society with their ‘illegal activities’?

No, luckily the subject is far more complex than that… And the ‘harsh’ language as used by the Authority in the letter towards renowned Netent Casinos as Mr Green, ComeOn! and Betsson can also be interpreted as a sign it will soon get better for both Norway, as well as the Norwegian fans of Netent casino games, the Netent Casinos, Net Entertainment and iGaming in general… Want to know why?
