NetEnt has announced plans to remove support for the Flash versions of 89 games.
In the early 2000s and early 2010s, most online casino slot games were built on Adobe Flash, a piece of multimedia software allowing for the creation of animations and interactive games.
In recent years NetEnt, like many other top developers, switched from Flash to HTML5, which allows for better quality games that can also be enjoyed on mobile devices.
Since then, NetEnt has been choosing to re-release games in HTML while retiring others from its portfolio.
This week, the iGaming powerhouse announced that 89 flash titles would be disabled in one fell swoop next month.
As a spokesman explained:
“For many months we have been cleaning up our portfolio by gradually ending the lives of some of the older NetEnt RNG Flash titles. The time has now come for all remaining Flash games to be removed from our portfolio offering.
“We are committed to providing the best gaming experience to your players, and this can only be achieved with HTML5 content; Flash technology is a thing of the past!”
Some of these games flash versions will live on until the end of the year – including Jackpot 6000, Creature of the Black Lagoon and Robin Hood; Shifting Riches.
It’s important to note that the NetEnt games you know and love will continue on through their new and improved HTML5 versions, but the lesser-known and enjoyed games will be cut.
