Roulette Odds Guide – Roulette Payouts Chart Explained

Roulette Odds Guide – Roulette Payouts Chart Explained

Published on by Ben

Roulette is a game of chance and if you’re thinking about wagering real money it’s important that you familiarise yourself with both the rules of the game and what chance you have of each type of bet landing. Also, as there are different variants of the game, it’s key that you understand how the odds are affected when playing certain versions.

If you’ve played this particular table game before, it’s likely you’re already aware of the respective roulette payout odds for each bet and how the house has an edge. Additionally, you may know that European roulette has more favourable odds towards the player than American roulette and, furthermore, variants with the La Partage and En Prison rules lower the house edge even further.

However, if you’re looking to get started, or simply want a refresh on the payouts, we suggest you continue reading our roulette odds guide. It will help you to get a firm grasp on exactly how much you can win when placing each type of bet.

Our roulette payouts chart covers each individual bet, in addition to listing the exact amount you can win as per the roulette table payout guide for the most common variants of the game. Understanding these odds is key to winning big when playing roulette and our hope is that the information contained within this article will help you to take on the house and land some substantial payouts at the best NetEnt Casinos!

Roulette Odds And Payout

If you’re taking a seat at the roulette table for the first time it can be tempting to scatter your chips across the table, on different bets, with the mentality that at least one of them is likely to be a winner. However, whilst you may end up selecting the winning number, each type of bet comes with specific payouts and odds of landing. Therefore, if you’re randomly placing chips you could be unintentionally wagering more than you potentially stand to win.

To truly make the most out of each spin it’s important that you’re familiar with the roulette wheel odds and each type of bet’s respective payout. You’ll find all of this information below, including the type of bet, payout, and true odds so that you can take this knowledge to the table and use it to beat the house at its own game.

Roulette Inside Bets

Roulette bets are classified into separate categories, the most common of which are inside bets and outside bets. Inside bets cover the individual numbers listed on the table and allow you to wager on a straight-up outcome or a combination of different numbers. These do have a lower chance to win than their outside bet counterparts, but the payouts are vastly greater when you win. You’ll find information relating to each type of inside bet in the table below.

Bet TypePayoutEuropean Roulette OddsAmerican Roulette Odds

Roulette Outside Bets

Outside bets are your best chance at landing a payout when playing roulette for real money. The majority of these cover half of the possible outcomes on each spin, but as such come with much smaller payouts than inside bets. These include bets such as red/black, odd/even, and high/low, which pay even money.

Greater payouts can be found when placing a bet on columns or dozens. Note that even money bets will always lose if zero or double zero lands as the winning number, except in the case where either of the En Prison or La Partage rules are in effect.

Essentially, any of these bets refer to a specific set of numbers or colours. You can find the exact payouts and odds below.

Roulette Called Bets

Called bets differ from inside bets and outside bets in the respect that the numbers included in them are combined according to their positions on the roulette wheel, not the table. There are two popular types of called bets, fixed and variable, which we shall explain in further detail below.

Fixed:

  • Les Voisins du Zéro/Neighbours of Zero: This bet included 17 numbers, which lie between 22 and 25 (inclusive) on the wheel – 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2 & 25. Nine chips are placed on different splits. Five chips are placed on the splits of 4-7, 12-15, 18-21, 19-22, and 32-35. Two chips are placed on the 0, 2, 3 trio and two chips are placed on the 25, 26, 28, 29 corner. As such your payout odds differ depending upon which number appears, up to 17 to 1.
  • Jeu Zero/Zero Game: This is a smaller version of the Neighbours of Zero bet, covering 7 numbers around the green zero – 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32 & 15. Four chips are required to place this bet. Three chips are placed on the splits of 0-3, 12-15, and 32-35 and a single chip on number 26 as a straight-up bet. Depending upon which number lands, your payout can be either 17 to 1 or 35 to 1.
  • Tiers du Cylindre/Thirds of the Wheel: This type of roulette bet utilises six chips that are placed on twelve numbers located between 33 and 27 on the roulette wheel – 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16 & 33. These six chips are placed on the splits of 5-8, 10-11, 13-16, 23-24, 27-30 & 33-36. Winning a Tiers du Cylindre bet yields a 17 to 1 roulette payout.
  • Les Orphelins/The Orphans: This covers the two remaining sections of the wheel outside of the Tiers and Voisins. This bet is made with five chips and utilises a total of eight numbers – 17, 34, 6, 1, 20, 14, 31 & 9. Four chips are placed on the splits of 6-9, 14-17, 17-20 & 31-34, whilst the final chip is placed as a straight-up bet on number 1. Split bets, except number 17, result in a 17 to 1 payout, whilst 17 itself results in a 35 to 1 payout due to it being included in two separate bets. Number 1 also pays 35 to 1 as a straight-up bet.

Variable:

  • Les Finales/Final Bets: This type of bet is available on a single-zero roulette wheel. You’re betting on the final digit of the winning number. For example, if you were to place a “final 4” bet, you’d be betting on all numbers that end in 4 – 4, 14, 24, & 34. The number of chips you need to place depends upon which final bet you place. Final bets placed on 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 require four chips, whilst those placed on 7, 8 & 9 require 3 chips.
  • The Neighbours: This bet covers one number that the player chooses, along with the two numbers that are located to the left and right on the wheel – in total, 5 numbers are covered. If a player were to place a bet on 7 and the neighbours, five chips would be placed as straight-up bets on 7, 12, 18, 28 & 29. Winning this bet results in a 35 to 1 payout.
  • Full Complete/Maximum Bets: A complete bet utilises all of the inside bets on a specific number. This is most often placed by high rollers, as it takes advantage of the table’s maximum bet limit using a progressive model. For example, if there was a €1,000 max limit on straight-up numbers, this results in a combination of the following bets:
Bet TypeNumber(s)ChipsAmount Wagered
Straight171€1,000
Split14-172€2,000
Split16-172€2,000
Split17-182€2,000
Split17-202€2,000
Street16-17-183€3,000
Corner13-14-16-174€4,000
Corner14-15-17-184€4,000
Corner16-17-19-204€4,000
Corner17-18-20-214€4,000
Six-line13-14-15-16-17-186€6,000
Six-line16-17-18-19-20-216€6,000
Total40€40,000

If the winning number were to be 17, a total payout of €392,000 would be awarded for the €40,000 stake.

? Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the payout odds in roulette?

When playing any version of online roulette it’s important to understand the difference between the odds of a specific type of bet landing and the payout odds you receive if your selection wins. Payout odds range from 1 to 1 (even money) for bets such as odd/even, red/black, and high/low all the way up to 35 to 1 when betting on individual numbers (straight-up).

  • What are the odds on 00 in roulette?

Double zero isn’t present on all roulette variants. It only appears on the American roulette wheel, which has 38 individual numbers. As such, it’s worth bearing in mind that although the odds of 00 landing are 37 to 1, the actual payout isn’t a direct reflection of the odds – sitting at 35 to 1. Therefore, every €1 you wager on this number as a straight-up selection will net you €35 in return if it lands.

  • Do you have to bet every time in roulette?

Whether you’re playing in a land-based casino or at an online counterpart, there are no roulette rules that state you must bet on every spin whilst at the table. Obviously, when playing online you could choose to sit back and watch how any number of spins unfold before deciding it’s time to place your bets. However, the caveat to this would be if you were to play any of the Live Roulette variants. If you sat out for too long your seat may become forfeited so that a player wishing to bet can sit at the table.

  • Can you bet on all numbers in roulette?

There’s nothing to prevent you from placing a bet on every number on the roulette table, but it would be unwise to do so via single number selections. With the payout being 35 to 1 for single number bets and there being either 37 or 38 numbers available, depending upon which version you’re playing, you wouldn’t recoup your initial stake if all of your bets were of the same value.

  • Can roulette dealers control the ball?

When playing roulette at a land-based casino, or certain live online versions, there are variables that come into play: the starting point from where the ball is launched, along with the croupier’s timing and force. It’s unrealistic to suggest that croupiers can pinpoint specific numbers at will, but they do exert some control over the outcome, whether it’s conscious or not. However, if you were to play virtual roulette, these elements would be removed and everything would be left to computerised random number generators.
