The Casino on The Silver Screen

Published on by Adam

The Casino on the Silver ScreenIf you’re a casino player, chances are you also love casino movies! And there are plenty out there to choose from so today we are talking about a couple of excellent titles you might want to check out, once you’re done playing of course.

Casino (1995)

This classic film stars Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci, with the directorial brilliance of Martin Scorsese. The movie follows the story of Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a mafia associate sent to Las Vegas to run the Tangiers Casino on behalf of the Chicago Mob. Stone plays Ace’s fiery wife Ginger, a lover of gambling, booze and her ex. Pesci plays Ace’s childhood friend and strongman as they navigate the dangerous and exciting world of Vegas casinos and the Mob in the 70s and 80s.

Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

With a star-studded cast and unlikely hijinks, this film is more of a heist movie than a strictly casino one. Still, we can’t help but love it! Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, leads a varied band of professional hustlers, each with their own speciality, in the heist of the century – robbing three different casinos at the same time. With some excellent zingers and a generous dollop of imagination, this is an easy watch that hasn’t lost its shine.

21 (2008)

A group of MIT students use their sharp mental capacity and memories to count cards at Las Vegas casinos. While we would never condone attempting to cheat the system, this story is truly impressive because it’s based in fact – the MIT Blackjack Team was a group of students and ex-students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Business School, Harvard University, and other leading colleges that used card counting to beat casinos.

Casino Royale (2006)

Daniel Craig began his career as James Bond in Casino Royale, where he takes on his first mission as 007. Bond goes up against Le Chiffre, the antagonist, in a high stakes poker game where there’s a lot more than cash on the line. The inimitable Mads Mikkelsen plays the villain while the enchanting Eva Green plays Bond girl Vesper Lynd. Plenty of action in this one, as you would expect, and a nice nod to the thrill of the casino too.

Rat Race (2001)

This is our comedy entry for this article. A casino magnate sets up a contest to entertain his billionaire friends – six random strangers must race each other to win $2 million. The catch? There are no rules, only that the first one to the cash, wins. Let’s just say you wouldn’t find any of these escapades at Casumo! Everything that can happen, does, and the hilarious antics along the way will have you in stitches!
