What Casino to Play this St George’s Day?

Published on by Adam

What Casino to Play this St George's DayAs our UK readers will know well, today (Sunday 23rd) marks the annual St George’s Day celebrations that are held up and down England. Ireland have Patrick, Scotland – Andrew, Wales – David, and England follow up with George – the patron saint of the country since 1327 when King Edward III bestowed this honour upon him posthumously.

We know a lot of our readers emanate from England, so we’re going to give you a few choice ideas of what casino games you can enjoy this 2017 St George’s Day. But first, a little history…

Isn’t Saint George Actually Greek?

Although not much is known about St George’s early life, he is Greek according to Roman scripts. Eventually, he joined the Roman army around the time he was 17 and progressed through their ranks to become a key member under Emperor Diocletian. However, Saint George was brought up as a Christian and continued to practise his faith while part of the Romans, something that ultimately led to his demise.

Around 300 AD, the Romans began to clampdown on Christianity’s growing influence within their army, ordering soldiers and followers to stop actively believing. This didn’t sit well with George who refused to stop following the path he’d been brought up with despite repeated attempts, so the Emperor he had loyally followed decided to execute him – doing so on 23rd April.

Where does this tie-in with England, we hear you ask? Well, King Edward decided to choose George as the country’s patron saint due to the sacrifice he had made to continue his Christian faith. He was deemed to epitomise everything the king thought the country should be, and it has stuck with England ever since.

Stick to Your Roots and Indulge in England’s Favourite Casino Games

As St George’s Day looks to celebrate all things England, why not be entertained by your favourite casino entertainment – with one or two freebies thrown in? Residents in the UK are very lucky in that much of online gambling is perfectly legal, something that plenty of other countries yearn for yet don’t have access to. With that in mind, let’s take you through some of the areas of casino that the English can play this St George’s Day 2017.

High-Volatility (High Risk)/High Wager Slots

We know that many Brits like to take risks. While other nationalities tend to play slots just for fun, or without the intention of winning too much, we know that’s often not in the English DNA. Gambling lots to win big is something ingrained in a lot of the culture, so NetEnt’s highly volatile slots are perfect for these occasions.

Dead or Alive, Gonzo’s Quest and Jack and the Beanstalk are some well-known “high risk” NetEnt slots, as you can go many spins without so much of a whiff of a winning combo. However, wait it out until the symbols land your way and you’re likely to be given a cracking prize pot for your patience.

The Traditional Classics

One of the most common experiences in many British pubs is the fruit machine. Dropping coins endlessly into these slots is as normal as a cup of tea in the morning to UK residents, so NetEnt naturally took this idea on board.

One-armed bandits can be found at many of the online casinos listed in the link above, truly satisfying the classic English pastime. Bingo is another traditional game played in the UK, and we’re delighted to say that there are a few casinos that offer it alongside quality NetEnt content.

Combine the Casino Fun with Your Other Favourite Areas

Speaking of aligning NetEnt casino games alongside other gambling entertainment, there’s perhaps no greater combo in UK history than casino and a bookmaker. Plenty of sporting enthusiasts wager many pounds on the wide-ranging events available, and UK bookies have added NetEnt slots, table games and the rest to the mix for a knockout punch.

Online poker also enjoys a decent amount of success in Great Britain, and there are numerous websites that double up with more casino titles. If you look hard enough, you’ll be able to find a few platforms which house all 3 – such as 888, Redbet and Betsson!
